We started this blog as a way to chronicle our path to self-sufficiency and show others how great homesteading can be. If you are living in the city dreaming of a home in the country, we hope you can get some inspiration from us to go for it and live the life you've imagined!
We love just being together on our homestead and are happiest exploring the woods, working on the house, tending to the garden, collecting eggs from our chickens and guineas, and playing with our many animals.

Me and my boyfriend moved from the city to Jefferson County, MO in 2011 to start homesteading and farming. It's so great to see another young couple transitioning from the city to the county and starting homesteading. It's one of the best decisions we've ever made. ReplyDeleteMy husband and I recently moved from the city to an acre and a half and I have recently decided...we need more room!! Hoping to move "way out into the country" sometime in the not-so-distant future! :)
ReplyDeleteDon't you feel so incredibly happy (and very rich) since you moved to the country? I find living in the country in northern B.C., Canada that we don't have much money but life is so good. Waking up each morning to the quietness, working in the woods, cutting trees for our wood furnace, being out in the fresh air every day, There is nothing like living in the country. You either love it madly!!!! or you hate it.

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are feeling the call to leave the city too--mind if I ask how you manage it? Do you commute? Did you leave jobs in the city and no live more frugally? We are struggling with how to have our life in the country and pay for it too! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Mickie! I totally understand where you are right now. We were in your same position just a few short years ago. How we make it work is by commuting. We still have the same jobs as before we moved, I just have to drive more (David's drive is about the same). We spend so much money on gas, but we have made trade-offs in other areas. For example, we don't spend much on entertainment like going to the movies - instead we spend time in our garden or playing with our animals! And we are trying to grow as much of our food as possible to cut back on grocery expenses. We are making it work and you can, too! I don't know anyone that I can interview to get a better grasp on what I want to do, so a friend suggested I connect with some bloggers. So that's where this is coming from haha. ReplyDeleteI chanced upon your your blog about three weeks ago when I was searching for blogs about raising chickens. Since then I've been reading your past posts. Love them! In two months, my hubby and I will be moving out of the city and will start living our dream of country life in Eastern Ontario Canada. We are both excited and a bit nervous. The property we just bought comes with chickens {this sealed the deal} :-) and I am so glad I found our blog - your tips on raising chickens are very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
