I have to take a break from regularly scheduled homesteading posts to brag on David a little.
On top of all the things he does for our homestead, in his day job he is a band teacher at a small rural school in our area and has done such amazing things with the marching band. They just finished their season last weekend and racked up over 20 trophies in their competitions this year! David made a deal with his kids that if they got 1st place at each competition, he would shave his beard. They came so close with getting 1st place in their first five competitions, but in the final one this past weekend they came in 2nd place. So the beard is safe...for now.
His school is basically the only one in his class size that puts on marching field shows at a competitive level. Most smaller schools who don't have football only participate in parade competitions. But David loves marching band so much that he challenges his kids to put on great shows every year, even though he doesn't have to. They could just do a couple of parade competitions, but David and the kids put in so much work starting early in the summer to get a fabulous show on the field. David pushes them to perform difficult music and complicated marching maneuvers, and somehow they pull it all off.
I see firsthand all the blood, sweat, and tears David puts into his job and I couldn't be more proud of him. We actually met in high school marching band ourselves, so band holds a special place in our hearts. Going to marching band competitions with him always makes me sentimental and I remember back when we were just beginning our relationship. I still get the same feeling I did back then when we cuddle together under a blanket on the bleachers now, waiting for the awards ceremony to begin. 13 years together and he still gives me butterflies.
Do you have a significant other you are incredibly proud of?
~Tammy
Aw Tammy this is so beautiful ... all of it !!!

ReplyDeleteSo, so sweet. Band is awesome, music is awesome, playing an instrument is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've been married for 20 years and still can't believe how much I adore my husband. True love must increase exponentially! :)
that is so sweet. laughed at the 'close-shave'. :)
ReplyDeleteAs a former "band mom" for seven years (two kids worth!) I know first-hand the hard work that goes into producing a competitive marching show. Good for your hubby that he does this! His students benefit so much.
ReplyDeleteOh Tammy I understand that flutter:) You are a very lucky girl and David is a lucky guy. Congratulations to David and his band kids.I think the beard will go sometime soon:) B
ReplyDeleteawwww! How sweet of you, and how sweet that you met in HS.
ReplyDeleteI just did a photoshoot this weekend, and my hubs stood in for a few to get my 'settings' and they turned out pretty dang good! I may or may not be posting them sometime!
Haha!
Here's to LOVE!
Aww, what a sweet post. Congrats to him on the competitions, that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat's truly sweet Tammy. David is giving so much more than marching band/music instruction to his students. It sounds like he is teaching them about commitment and giving and having fun. That's a great teacher.
ReplyDeleteI've been married for over twenty years and I can't believe it because it feels like it has just flown by and that forever just won't be long enough.
Glad the beard is safe.
Bravo to David ~ congrats to a handsome dude ~ glad they did so well but also glad he still has beard ~ Wonderful teacher! ~ thanks for 'visiting' ~ carol, xx
ReplyDeleteOh, how sweet!! Love his heard!! I remember when my hubby went all long hair and beard!! Oh, my!! That was awhile back! You should be proud of him!

Congratulations to him! I'm sure the kids are already plotting the beard demise for next year.
ReplyDeleteAwww Tammy, Congratulations to him for being such a great teacher and husband! Through my daughter's experience in the band program I know all the passion and work that teachers put for their bands to excel. Kudos to them all!
ReplyDeleteTammy, that is so sweet, I really enjoyed reading this...it's so good to see people love one another so much.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to him, and thank goodness for his close shave!
Congratulations to David! I used to be a teacher myself, so I know firsthand what a hard job it is!
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet! And congratulations to David for all his hard work and accomplishments!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to David and the marching band! What a great achievement.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post and tribute to your hubby -- they work so hard, don't they? :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful post Tammy, I can really feel how proud you are of that man. Congratulations to Dave and his marching band - and to you my friend, for scoring one of "the good guys". I'm sure he feels equally as honored to have you. You make a fantastic couple!!!
ReplyDeleteBrag away, Tammy! He deserves it. It's a wonderful way to feel about your husband. Hang on to that under the blanket flutter. :-)
ReplyDeleteDavid sounds like an amazing human being. You both do. Those kids are lucky to have him indeed. And yes I am very proud of my significant other. I will blog about it sometime :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!! Congrats to him and all the kids - sounds like they have a wonderful relationship. And sounds like the two of you do as well. :)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet. :-) I love the dedication he has too. And the kids will remember him as that special teacher. I know, I remember the teachers who are like him.
ReplyDeleteI love your sweetheart story.
Thank you for sharing.
Sounds like he is really doing a great job on all accounts. Such a treasure to still get butterflies!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO sweet! Your guy is treasured by his students I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Awww, I love that!
ReplyDeleteThe Renegades and I are so lucky for the hardworking providing man I married. He's a gentle kind father and a strong supportive husband.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to read of a smaller school with a great band. Our band teacher has issues and therefore hardly any kids go out for it. They play and it's almost painful. For the ears.
I sure do! My hubby went from a not-too-sure about animal kind of guy to, over the years, a sometimes even more excited about animals than me sort of guy! He helps me out so much around our little "farm". He is my best friend and my faithful rock.
ReplyDeleteLove your story! Hubby and I were in marching band too, so we share your interests there! It is a LOT more work than people realize. :)
Well done David! What a great guy.
ReplyDeleteGood work David. Challenging kids and motivating them to do well is a good way of practice. D avid and kids are have a good relationship to work hard.
ReplyDeleteTammy, it is always nice to hear about wonderful teachers. David is both a great hubby and teacher. A lovely tribute to your sweetie!
ReplyDeleteLove it. So what did you play in band? I was clarinet. I actually went to 2 high schools because my family moved in 11th grade. The second HS was like marching in a college band. It was huge & we played some fierce music pieces.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the marching band! It sounds like that beard might be gone before long... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely proud of my husband as well. He just finished Paramedic school and got a full time job less than a week later, which is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself. ;)
aw that is wonderful!! congrats!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the sweetest post, Tammy! I will always be forever grateful to the "above and beyond" teachers out there like David, and the impact they have made on my daughter's life. I bet David's students adore him too:) xx
ReplyDeleteLove this! It is obvious how much you appreciate each other, and it's so sweet to see. I'm so very proud of my husband too :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post Tammy! I can see why you are very proud of David! Yep, my hubby still gives me butterflies too. :)
ReplyDeleteYay for David! I have a nephew who coaches not one but two high school marching bands, rivals, no less. As a marching band alum myself and with a daughter who also marched, I have enormous appreciation for people who do this work.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful testimony about your man. Your love and respect for him is flying off the screen :) Congrats on the bands accomplishments!
ReplyDeleteHe does have a hard job! Bless him for doing it!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that he challenges the kids to do their best in a small rural school. With all kinds of budget cuts in education it is people like David who love what they do that make the kids want to excel. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteawww David sounds like a really great person and I'm happy that you found each other. Good luck to him and the band!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is just lovely! Amazing guy! And what instrument did you play?
ReplyDeleteHe sounds wonderful. Nice to read about him and how you guys met.
ReplyDeleteI think my man Stu is pretty great too.
When you find your passion, happiness follows...So happy for both of you and for all of the families touched by David's hard work.
ReplyDeleteKudos to David for caring about his students and doing such a great job! I'm glad to hear that all the hard work has paid off. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteAw, Tammy - that last bit of info about you & David made my heart melt a little.
ReplyDeleteMy husband & I are highschool sweethearts, too.. dating since we were just teens & I cheered him on at sports.
Our small school doesn't have a marching band anymore, and it bums me out! We don't even have a pep band anymore. The band is so much a part of the fun & spirit at football games. I love when we play other schools who still have a band.
My young cousin, who goes to school in the larger town near us, is a part of their color guard with the marching band. It is a THRILL to see videos of their performances & competitions: here they are! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKK1_kt9YOc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DyKK1_kt9YOc&app=desktop My aunt helped sew their costumes.
Way to go to your David, for keeping marching band going!
(The quality of the video gets much better after about 4.5 minutes.)
DeleteI think that is so awesome that he inspires the kids so much!! We need more people like him! It is so neat that the band is such a part of your lives from the beginning. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat's too cute about shaving/not shaving the beard. He's a great guy and you make a wonderful couple, always thought that and just from knowing you through blogging! :) You can tell you were meant to be together. It is very special to have a partner in life who wants the same things and whom you can still feel butterflies with, so many people never have that!
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps. Simply goosebumps. You are one lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteSooo Sweet :-}}}}
ReplyDeleteButterflies are the greatest!!
You are BOTH lucky to have each other!!
Awwwwww, That almost made me cry (happy tears). You guys seem so perfect together.
ReplyDeleteLove hearing how people met and yours is such a lovely story! I can hear the love and pride in your words towards your young, hardworking husband. You make a sweet couple! xo
ReplyDeleteI just love all the love in the post. Such a lovely glimpse of your other half!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and congratulations to David on all of his fine work!
xoxo
