Strawberries With Graham Crackers

The first strawberries of the season are very exciting for me. I refuse to eat strawberries out of season since they pale in comparison to the real thing, so waiting all winter long adds to the thrill of taking that first juicy bite.

I haven't mastered growing my own strawberries, so I get my fix at the local farmers market. David and I checked it out for the first time this season on Saturday and got some awesome items. I even got to pet some baby goats! It was heaven. And when I saw the big, red, juicy strawberries I knew I had to have them. I ate several of them on the way home along with my chai spiced pretzel from the market and have managed to polish off the whole pint in just a few days. No apologies!

I've had this simple graham cracker strawberry bowl for breakfast the past couple days. All I do is slice the strawberries and sprinkle with a little brown sugar. I stir and let them rest for a minute to get the juices flowing. Then I crumble on a couple graham crackers and have at it. For a little more decadence this morning, I also drizzled on a local honey made from bees foraging at a walnut farm.

For me, this is the perfect way to celebrate the return of strawberry season. What is your favorite way to eat strawberries?

  1. Yum - great idea! I'll have to try that; I bet Andy will love it, too....thanks for the easy recipe idea, you've kind of made my day ;-). I don't really have a favorite strawberry recipe - I like them in a fruit salsa, in my smoothies, and just all by themselves.

  13. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all berries! Strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. I have all three right now in my refrigerator. Never had the strawberries with graham crackers -- will have to try them!! I like cutting up my strawberries and layer them with crumbled angel food cake and vanilla pudding, and whip cream, then sprinkled with orange juice. It's really light and summery. I watch TV, eating blackberries.

  16. Oh my that looks yummy. I wouldn't have thought of graham crackers on strawberries but I image it would be wonderful. My favorite way to have strawberries is sliced up with a hint of sugar stirred in, chilled for a while then poured on top of angel food cake, no whipped cream. Of course I tend to eat half the strawberries while I am cleaning and slicing them lol.

I haven't mastered growing them either, but I may try again next year...I will study other people's methods until them :-)

  20. We had the first berries of the season this weekend too, from the farmers market since mine are not quite ready to be picked. I agree nothing like fresh clean food that's in season, YUM! I'm a bit jealous you got to play with baby goats :) Sounds like it was a great weekend.

We're in about our 3rd year of getting our strawberry patch established. We tried eons ago, but failed. This time around, things are looking good! We had some fruit last year, and my husband worked on the strawberry patch much of the weekend - looking like champs! We won't have berries until later in June way up here.

  29. My strawberries froze in the April way below seasonal freezing temperatures we had. I've had to replant them. My mom makes a strawberries and bananas salad/dessert which I absolutely love. Speaking of which I haven't had it in a while. Must. Make. Soon.

  33. I have never had my strawberries this way, but I certainly will be giving it a try. Yum! My son and I LOVE our strawberries from the farmers market. We aren't that exciting tho, we just eat them plain. Of course he loves, on occasion, when Mom decides to dip them in chocolate. :)
At the farm where I buy my starter plants for our garden, they had hanging baskets of strawberries. I am tempted to try one. I have never had any luck growing them in the ground because of all the critters snacking on them.
