Feathered Friend Friday: Ellie's Chicks Hatched!

Three weeks ago I posted about our broody hen, Ellie, and I am overjoyed to say that all her hard work has paid off and she successfully hatched five chicks this week!

Two of them are a mixed light gray color and the other three are black with a few white spots.

It has been very hard to tear myself away from them for the past few days! I have always wanted to see a hen hatch out her own chicks after hearing about how cute they are together. I can say now after experiencing it firsthand, it is nothing short of magical.

"Sis, come out and play!"

  48. Hi: I just got some new chicks and I would much rather have the MaMa take care of them than me. They are a lot of work. My adorable grandkids color coded and named the chicks. They painted each chick with a different nail polish color and drew a list matching up the color with the name. Pretty smart!!! Have fun with the new chicks and thank you for sharing.

  51. It is rare to have a mama hen sit and hatch her own eggs. Thanks for the inspiration because I hope one of my hens decides to do this one day.

  54. Oh they're so cute! I've got a broody hen whose going to hatch out eggs any day now. I have no idea how many she has, because like last time, she built a nest way up on top of the stone foundation in the lower level of the barn.

Your chicks are beautiful. Have fun!
